Why is

Theranostics Important?

Theranostics plays a vital role in modern medicine by revolutionising the way diseases are diagnosed and treated. This innovative approach combines diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities into a single platform, allowing for personalised treatment strategies tailored to individual patients. By enabling early detection of diseases, accurate localisation of pathological tissues, and targeted delivery of therapeutic agents, theranostics minimizes systemic side effects and improves treatment outcomes. Additionally, theranostics facilitates real-time monitoring of treatment response, allowing clinicians to adjust therapy as needed for optimal results.

With its potential to enhance patient care, reduce healthcare costs, and advance precision medicine, theranostics represents a significant paradigm shift in healthcare delivery.

A Patient-Centric Approach to Theranostics

The key to achieving this vision is ensuring that all stakeholders—including patients, healthcare providers, regulators, suppliers, and researchers—are engaged in meaningful discussions. We act as the glue that binds these different parties together, promoting innovation, regulatory progress, and access to more diverse therapies.

Through these efforts, we aim to make theranostics more accessible to a wider patient population. Read more.

01

Role of theranostics

The clinical place of theranostics in an expanding range of specific cancers is still under research. The future is promising with a wide variety of cancers currently being investigated by biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Theranostic treatments unlike other treatment approaches are unique in that the cancer can be "seen" and "treated. This ability to ‘see’ and ‘treat’ using sophisticated imaging techniques differentiates this approach. As these treatments are targeted selectively to tumour cells there is potential for less toxicity compared to earlier generation cytotoxic chemotherapies.

02

World-leading therapies

Australia is currently a world leader in theranostics. Much of the early research and clinical trials has been conducted within institutions within Australia. This situation may change as the USA and Europe are now increasingly investing in theranostics for expanded patient usage as well as supporting nascent industry initiatives.

03

Accessible treatments

Regional, Rural, Remote and Indigenous Communities. Theranostics has primarily been available only within city locations. This means that Australians in areas outside of the main cities are suffering significant disadvantages based on the location of where they live.

Advocates for powerful connections

The Oncothera Advocacy logo, featuring three interconnected human shapes, symbolises unity, support, and solidarity within the cancer community. The figures represent the collaborative effort required to address the multi-faceted challenges of cancer advocacy. The modern design reflects the professional nature of advocacy work, the blue colour is a strong link to prostate cancer, while the use of three figures signifies the holistic approach needed to support patients emotionally, physically, and mentally through their cancer journey. Ultimately, the logo embodies Oncothera Advocacy's vision to facilitate multi-disciplinary teams by connecting government, pharma and patient organisations.

Meet The Team

At Oncothera Advocacy, our work is informed by the insight and integrity of two key leadership groups: our Medical Committee and our Executive Board.

The Medical Committee brings together leading clinicians, researchers, and nuclear medicine specialists who contribute deep subject-matter expertise to our strategy and advocacy efforts. Their role is to ensure our work is clinically grounded, scientifically accurate, and aligned with the evolving landscape of theranostics and radiopharmaceuticals.

The Executive Board oversees our mission, governance, and long-term vision – guiding Oncothera’s role as a trusted, neutral voice for the entire sector. With a diverse mix of experience across healthcare, policy, industry and advocacy, the Board ensures we continue to represent everyone in the category – from patients to providers, manufacturers to researchers.

Together, these two groups help Oncothera deliver on its mission: better access to theranostic treatment for all Australians.
