Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, or PRRT, may be considered when a neuroendocrine tumour expresses sufficient somatostatin receptors. Specialised receptor imaging is usually used to assess this before treatment. The decision also considers the tumour type, extent of disease, previous treatment and your overall health.

PRRT combines a molecule that targets somatostatin receptors with a radioactive isotope. The treatment travels through the bloodstream, binds to tumour cells carrying those receptors and delivers radiation directly to them, helping control tumour growth and, in some patients, symptoms.
