Different isotopes are used to provide the therapeutic component of a theranostic treatment.

Isotopes are divided into the following emitters:

  • Alpha emitters (positive charged particle consisting of 2 protons & 2 neutrons)

  • Beta emitters (are high energy, high speed electrons (β-) or positrons (β+))

  • Gamma emitters (packets of energy known as photons)


Each emitter has different physical characteristics making it suitable for treatment.
